Arrecifes City

Arrecifes City: Argentina's best kept secret

Arrecifes City

Sitting within close proximity of Argentina’s lively capital Buenos Aires, Arrecifes was the site of the first ranch (‘estancias’) in the region at the turn of the 17th century. Today Arrecifes continues to maintain hundreds of farms, making it a popular agritourism destination among visitors from across the globe.

Located on a traditional route to Chile and Peru, this primarily farming community makes for a relaxed break from the fast pace of the country’s capital. The local population make a living from growing wheat, soy beans and corn as well as from textile production, making Arrecifes a good place to pick up locally made clothing and leather items.

The city’s stunning location near the Atlantic coast ensures there are plenty of excellent beaches nearby. There is also an array of popular islands within easy driving distance. Aside from visiting the beaches, popular pursuits among visitors to Arrecifes include staying at a ranch. Agritourism here gives tourists a chance to live and work on a farm and learn about regional produce.

Tourist facilities in Arrecifes are good and include a range of hotels and farm stays to suit different budgets, as well as night-time entertainment and a dining scene with a Spanish flavour. Treating yourself to asado (beef steak barbeque) is a quintessential Argentinean experience that should not be missed, as is attending a tango lesson.

At just over 100 miles (175kms) from Buenos Aires, visitors to Arrecifes can make a daytrip to the capital to enjoy its diverse cultural attractions. The nearby capital is also the gateway to the country and the arrival point of most international visitors, with passengers landing at Ministro Pistarini International Airport. Flights link Buenos Aires with Europe and North America as well as with regional destinations in South America.
